Segun Odegbami, an ex-international, said on Sunday that the semi-final between Nigeria and Algeria at the ongoing African Cup of Nations(AFCON) would be tough. Odegbami made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ota, Ogun State. He noted that the Super Eagles needed to listen to their coach and technical crew as the match between them and the Desert Foxes of Algeria “would be hard.” “Our success when the Green Eagles played against Algeria in the final of the 1980 Nations Cup that we won by 3-0 should inspire the present Super Eagles to victory.” he said. The ex-international, however, advised the Super Eagles to fight from the beginning to the end of the match against the Desert Foxes ” as it would be a difficult one.” NAN reports that Odegbami, who played for the Green Eagles in the finals of the 1980 Cup of Nations, scored two goals against Algeria. Ajax have left captain Matthijs de Ligt out of their squad for a training camp in Austria as the player is “awaiting a possible transfer”. The Dutch centre-back has been linked with a move and Barcelona, Juventus, Manchester United and Paris St-Germain all named as potential destinations. De Ligt, 19, led Ajax to the Eredivisie title, the Dutch Cup and Champions League semi-finals last season. He joined the club aged nine and has scored 13 goals in 117 games. De Ligt made his Ajax debut in 2016 and was named the club’s captain in March 2018. In a statement, the Dutch club said: “[We] left Saturday afternoon with 28 players to the training camp in Bramberg, Austria, Awaiting a possible transfer, Matthijs de Ligt does not travel with the group.” Last week, Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu said he knows where De Ligt would be playing next season, but would not elaborate on the point. Newly signed Real Madrid star, Eden Hazard has chosen another shirt number after his new teammates, Luka Modric and Mariano refused to hand him the No 10 or 7 respectively, according to Marca. The Belgian will now wear the No 23 shirt at Real Madrid. Hazard joined Real Madrid earlier this summer, leaving Chelsea, after seven years in west London. Upon his arrival at the Bernabeu Hazard is said to have asked for his favoured No 10 shirt. However, Modric, the man who currently wears that jersey, wasn’t keen to give it up. Madrid striker Mariano, who is adamant he does not want to leave the club this summer, is also unwilling to give up his number for Hazard. The newspaper claimed the winger will now take the ’23’ shirt – famously worn by David Beckham during his time in Spain. However, Hazard’s reasoning is not because of the former England captain.
